This safari was an unforgettable experience, offering a glimpse into the wild heart of Africa through Namibia’s desert plains, Limpopo’s valleys, and the Eastern Cape’s coastal mountains. Each location provided its own unique charm and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

The hospitality and comfort at each lodge made the trip even more special, balancing adventure with relaxation. I highly recommend the Khangela African Safaris experience to anyone looking to explore Africa’s diverse landscapes and wildlife.

In September 2024 my wife Ann and I went to South Africa with Khangela Safaris. Although we had been in South Africa many times before, we had never been to the Eastern Cape.

We flew to Port Elizabeth, where Juan McDonald picked us up, and we were soon on one of the best hunts we’ve ever had.

We were hosted by Juan, Andries (Kees) Carla, and the staff at Khangela. For the next 10 days we hunted, fished, and traveled through some of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been. We even drove up several hours into the mountainous Karoo, and gave our 4 wheel drive truck a severe test, in mountains that have serious snow in the winter!

Unlike a typical “trophy safari “, we just hunted. It was so much fun. Ann had hunted deer and antelope in Oregon, but had always just came with me as a companion in Africa. This time she hunted-and bagged 5 animals, including warthogs, impala and blesbuck. It was very rewarding for her. Juan did a super job getting her on the sticks so she could make accurate shots. I got my share too, although the huge herds of red hartebeest on top of the mountains gave us the slip. I did, however, also shoot waterbuck, black and blue wildebeest, and springbok. We also fished in the Indian Ocean surf for kob, and toured the Addo Elephant Park.

Evenings were spent recounting our days with gin and tonics, and then having a wonderful dinner cooked by the Khangela kitchen crew. The accommodations, the vehicles, the staff were all top notch.
Ann and I would highly recommend Khangela Safaris.
